OKUMA has been awarded for its new Intelligent Technology 5-Axis Auto Tuning System - A Revolution in 5-axis machining accuracy.
A 5-Axis machine has 3 linear axes being the X, Y, Z and 2 rotational axes ( A and C-axis). This makes complex shaped parts machining possible. But themore axes a machine has the more geometric errors increase. Geometric Errors can change over time due to, for example, floor surface movement. Errors include displacement of the center position of the rotary axis, tilt of the rotary axis with respect to the orthogonal axis, thermal deformation, changes over time in the installation environment, and on and on. These errors can cause steps in slope machining, shape defects in curve machining and other problems.
Therefore fine tuning of Geometric Errors is needed on the shop floor machines for highly accurate 5-Axis Machining.
The adjustment of many types of geometric errors takes both time and effort. Moreover, measurements done manually do vary. This makes it difficult to obtain precision with a 5-axis machine.
OKUMA‘s 5-Axis Auto Tuning System helps the operator to correct 5-Axis Geometric Errors quickly and easily.
The 5-Axis Auto Tuning System measures geometric errors using a touch probe and datum sphere. The operation procedure is displayed on the OSP screen. With the machine table being easily accessible, measurement setups are very easy. Tuning is done for movement accuracy of 5-axis machines by compensation using measurement results. This enables 5-axis machining accuracy to achieve the next level.
Only 4 Error types can normally be detected manually while our 5-Axis Auto Tuning System is able to detect 11 types of errors.
Manually it takes between 30mins to 1 hour while our system only needs 5 to 10mins to eliminate these errors.
Manually the accuracy is only improved to 12 micrometer whereas our 5-Axis Auto Tuning System is able to improve the accuracy to 3 micrometer.
Just as any piano needs tuning to produce beautiful sounds so the 5-Axis Auto Tuning System tunes the geometric errors so to maximize the 5-Axis Machining performance.
